You did not see it coming? That is normal, it is TikTok
In late March 2025, TikTok quietly pressed the red button. Boom. TikTok Shop is live in France. And you? Relaxed. Still debating whether to open a corner on Amazon. Classic.
Because for many, TikTok was still an app for teenagers in tracksuits dancing to Jul. Except it is not. It is now above all a factory for selling anything in 30 seconds flat, and your competitors are already on it, converting while you scroll LinkedIn posts about “the perfect funnel”.
But what exactly is TikTok Shop?
Put simply: a shop built straight into the TikTok app. You watch a video, you see a nice jumper, you click, you pay, done. No redirect to a website, no endless basket, no cookies to accept.
It is smooth, fast, and it sells. And since the algorithm is a beast, it knows exactly what to serve you, at the right moment, in the right mood, when you have just watched three skincare or kitchen gadget videos in a row.
And meanwhile, what about your competitors?
Ah, them? They did not wait for a market study.
They switched on TikTok Shop, threw out three ugly but authentic videos, ran two lives with an entry-level ring light, and boom. Sales. Not hundreds at first, mind you. But enough to think: “OK, we are onto something.”
Since then, they have worked out the game. They have spotted the products that create buzz. They send samples to micro-creators. They run live shopping on Tuesday evenings at 8pm. And they sell. Every day. While you wait for your SEA budget to be approved.

“But my audience isn't on TikTok”
Oh yes. She is. Even your aunt Monique is on it. She posts nothing, but she scrolls. She looks at gratin recipes, anti-wrinkle tips and clothing hauls. And sometimes she buys.
Because that is the real point: TikTok has killed the barrier between content and commerce. Before, you went to Google. Now, you stay inside TikTok. You inform yourself, you get inspired, you buy, all in the same place. No need to think. It is the perfect trap.
What your competitors worked out very quickly
On TikTok, design is not what sells.
Nor is it the quality of the videos.
It is emotion, the instant, the “you see that thing, you need it”.
So they do not waste time polishing their responsive mobile site. They show. They test. They react to comments live. It is raw, it is alive, and it sells.
And where do you fit in?
Still writing product descriptions for PrestaShop? Still working out whether it is worth rebuilding your conversion funnel? That is fine. But meanwhile, the real business is happening elsewhere.
And this is not a passing hype. It is a massive migration of attention and of purchasing.
Right, what do we do now?
You do not need to change everything. But do at least keep one eye open:
Try TikTok Shop. Just to see. Really.
Identify the products that could lend themselves to this (spoiler: they are not necessarily your current best sellers).
Make a video. Even an ugly one. Even with no budget. Just… test.
You do not need to become an influencer. You just need to be where your clients already spend their time.
And where does your e-commerce site fit in? It remains essential
Make no mistake: TikTok Shop does not replace an e-commerce site. It enriches it. It speeds it up. It captures the impulse.
But to manage your stock, your product pages, your conversion funnels, your data, your margins and your loyal customers, nothing replaces a proper shop that is structured, fast and optimised.
At Smart Impact, we carry on building e-commerce sites that are solid, attractive and designed to last. The difference? We help you connect the right channels at the right moment, TikTok Shop included. Because today, it is not one or the other. It is the ecosystem that wins.
One last reminder before you close the tab
TikTok Shop is not a gimmick. It is a shortcut. Between the urge and the purchase. Between the content and the basket.
And those who are already on it? They are not necessarily smarter. They simply understood faster. It is up to you to decide whether you want to run behind them or catch up.
